Your first visit to Alloy Personal Training Tanque Verde is a Starting Point Session: a conversation about your goals and health history, an InBody body composition analysis, a functional movement assessment, and an introductory workout scaled to you. It takes just under an hour, and nothing about it is a test.
Our studio sits on Tanque Verde Road in East Tucson, and the people who walk through the door are mostly adults in their 40s through 80s from Tanque Verde, the Catalina Foothills, and the Sabino Canyon area. Many have not trained in years. This guide walks through the first visit so there are no surprises.
What happens during a Starting Point Session?
Four things, in order: a goals conversation with a coach, a functional movement assessment, an InBody body composition analysis, and an introductory workout at your level. You leave knowing exactly where you are starting from, and with a membership recommendation that fits your situation.
The order is deliberate. The conversation and assessment come first so the workout is calibrated to your body, not a generic tryout. An old shoulder, a knee with history, a doctor's note: all of it goes into the plan before you touch a weight.
What does the InBody analysis tell me?
The InBody measures body composition rather than just weight: muscle mass, body fat percentage, visceral fat, and related metrics, in about a minute. It becomes your baseline, and members rescan monthly so progress gets measured instead of guessed at.
The scan is a measurement, not a judgment. Plenty of people put off training because they want to be in better shape before anyone measures anything. The baseline exists so you can start from where you actually are.
Is the training one-on-one or in a group?
Alloy runs small group personal training: sessions are 55 minutes, hold no more than six members, and a professional coach leads every minute. Each person follows their own program, progressing on a structured 12-week cycle. You get the individual attention of a personal trainer with the energy and lower cost of a small group.
It is also personal in the literal sense. Owner Tina Westerholm coaches on the training floor along with her staff of expert coaches, and your coach knows every member by name. You can meet the team before you ever book.
What should I wear and bring?
Athletic clothes, supportive sneakers, and a water bottle. You do not need experience, and you do not need to get in shape first. Teaching the movements is the coach's job, and the studio runs by appointment, so you will never be guessing on a crowded gym floor.
